LET’S face it. Guys don’t do greeting cards. Frankly, most of us can’t be bothered to remember our sister-in-law’s birthday. But we know what happens when we do — the pure aggravation that can culminate in a last-minute run to the drugstore right before it closes.

A painful task, but now there’s something that might make the process considerably less irritating: a Web site that does basically all the work for you.

Some people will recognize the sentiment from a Spongebob Squarepants episode, in which Spongebob wakes and finds that it’s time to celebrate Leif Erikson Day. The comic potential of Vikings is almost unlimited, and the script writers certainly made the most of it.

Having already established that every day is a holiday or observance in honor of something, it is worth noting that while the aforementioned script writers took comic liberties with the Vikings, they were not the creators of Leif Erikson Day.

In fact, Leif Erikson Day is a recognized holiday celebrated on October 9th, honoring the Viking Explorer Leif Erikson – who some think was the first to discover America. There are more than 15,000 cards in the SendOutCards catalog, and in the past, finding the right card usually involved a hunting expedition through multiple categories and pages, sometimes taking a frustratingly long time.  This was particularly the case when trying to show the product to potential customers doing a Gift Account walk through.

It was good advice when we heard it from Robin Williams in “Dead Poets Society”, just as it was over twenty centuries earlier when Roman poet Horace first wrote it. We get today – we’re here for the moment, and unless we use today to realize our goals and dreams, unless we take the day and reach out to those who we care about, and those who we love, there is no guarantee that we will have tomorrow. That’s what SendOutCards is all about – seizing the day!
